Summary: Not Good...
Comment: Rourke started out a great hero, but this author can never keep a hero 'cool' through an entire book. (Plus, nothing wrong with smoking cigars, but did she have to let Rourke smoke practically one right after the other? And even back then, he should have been considerate enough not to smoke in an elevator full of people.)
Becky was a pretty good character but those brothers? There was a 10 year old and a 17 year old and the author had them talking like adults. I wish D.P. would learn how to give teens and pre-teens dialogue true to their ages. Even Rourke's lines were extremely formal, and not 'everyday' speech.

Summary: Decent hero for a change!!
Comment: Usually Diana's heroes are macho men without much common sense, this hero was thoughtful and did seem to reach out to her entire family in their time of need. Being the D.A. and tough on drug offenders her brother put their relationship in a great deal of jeopardy. Rourke was tough but really great with the conflict in her family concerning their relationship.
I never got the feeling that Rourke was using Rebeccah to find evidence against her brother or the gang that was trying so hard to get him involved. To me it was an excuse to get close to Rebeccah. I thought this was a nice easy read and enjoyed the book. I also recommend Lawless although the hero in that book was a bit thick.

Summary: Night Fever - running a temperature!
Comment: I always try to suspend belief when I read these romances. That being said, I thought Pru was a little too prudish in the way of the world. Her being a virgin didnt bother me as much as she seemed a little too over protected from things especially living with 3 men: her grandfather and two brothers for heaven sake!!

Roarke was great but I had to remember this was 1990 when every other sentence with him in it had him attached to this cigar! In the elevator, cafes, hospital whatever!! Have you ever kissed a man who has been smoking a cigar? Well, I have and it is NOT pleasant. Let's hope it was a cheroot!!! :D:D:D:D:D But the rest of him was written quite well.

It was an amusing romance, sensuality a 6. Drugs and law are popular topics; never seeming to go out of style, unfortunately. Read the book quite quickly and it moved along nicely. Now on to more serious reading. These foo foo books are raising my blood sugar!

Summary: A good book for Palmer fans
Comment: Night fever is an engaging people-story, with a heavy dose of romance. It was a good read all-around, but that's not to say there weren't a few things that I didn't like.

Palmer does a great job with character development and depth in the book. She gives you a nice picture of each character, and doesn't leave you wondering about any aspect of them. I liked both Rebecca and Rourke, and their relationship was sweet. I really enjoyed the slow, steady progression of their relationship, where they got to know each other and became friends first. It's nice to read something like that for a change. At times I felt Palmer wrote Rebecca to be a bit too provincial and naive - I think I knew more about sex and the world at 11 yrs old (in 1990) than Rebecca knew at 24. And I thought she was at times a bit too clueless, but I suppose that fits with the country-girl image Palmer was cultivating. Still, it was a nice romance with good characters.

As for the overall story line - while not exactly meaty - it was a good dynamic to put the characters in. The book is a bit simplistic, but it works for the situations and characters, because they book isn't about the actions and "plot" but more about the characters. The law aspect, and "realities" of the drug-war and legal system were nicely written and, to a certain degree, thought provoking. True, the information is dated because the book was originally written in 1990, but you just have to keep that in mind while reading. With that being said, I thought the ending - the resolution of Clay's situation - was rushed and not quite clear. Palmer leaves a little bit too much as being implied. And the resolution between Rebecca and Rourke was a little disjointed and sudden. I didn't think enough had been said to put things right between them.

Overall, though, Night Fever is a good people-drama/romance. If you enjoy Palmer's other books, you'd probably like this one as well.

Summary: Good love story, poor editing
Comment: Rebecca Cullen is 24 years old and struggles to support her two brothers and her grandfather. She is determined to do it all without asking for anyone's help. Her mother died when she was younger, and their father left them. Rourke Kilpatrick is the local district attorney with a steely determination to bring criminals to justice. Rourke happens to be working temporarily in the same building as Becky. Their first meeting is not exactly a romantic encounter. Things are not easy as Becky falls for Rourke at the same time that her brother Clay is getting in trouble with the law. Overall it was a decent love story but editorial errors spoil the smooth flow of the narrative.
