Summary: Perfect book for the weak economy
Comment: I read at least one business book a month and didn't have a high expectation about this one. However, it is surprisingly good. It is very entertaining and rich in examples and concepts.
The book starts with a simplified discussion on the evolution of the supply chain and how Strategic Sourcing fits into today's organizations. After covering some of the main activities in Sourcing and the profile of professionals in this area, the book shows how to implement a Strategic Sourcing program and its most common tools. At the end, the book also brings 3 great business cases demonstrating these tools.
If you don't have time to go over all the details, go straight to the business case in Chapter 11. It is a great summary on how to apply Strategic Sourcing. THIS IS A MUST READ!
The nice thing about the book is that everything is described with dozens of examples of the best companies in the world. Also, the implementation process is easy to follow. I thought the analogy between business and personal relationships was very clever.
The stories are funny and after reading this book it is easy to see how someone can transfer his personal experiences to improve his business skills and vice-versa.
