Summary: Like Cliffs notes for Star Wars.....
Comment: Whether you are New or a Novice to the Expanded Universe of Star Wars. This Book has it all..... Everything you've wondered about Transportation in the Star Wars Universe. I wish I'd had it while reading The NJO series. I would have understood the Vong technology a little more.

Comment: This re-vamp of the original Vehicles And Vessels takes a slightly different slant with the subject matter. Yes, there are repetitions, but with colour 3D illustrations (some rather basic) derived from Computer Aided Design and an expanded text, they are worth a second look.
There are many additions from Episodes 1 to 3, given the same 3D treatment and some insight into the technology of the Clone Wars.

Manufacturing industries have their own section at the beginning of the book and there are strategic evaluations of major battles as an appendix for Naboo, Geonosis, Yavin, Hoth and Endor.

There is a new slant to include the 'New Jedi Order' ships and events. The encounter with the Ssi Ruuvi is relegated to the 'Other Vehicles and Vessels of Note' appendix; a mainly textual set of descriptions (one paragraph in length for each) of ships not considered to be worthy of a complete two-page spread.

The final appendix is an interesting Hyperdrive Classification chart, with normal space speed comparisons.

For those with the original work, this is a worthy companion. For those who have never seen the original, this is a great introduction to Star Wars technology.

Summary: A Solid Reference
Comment: This book is a well deserved updated edition. The huge colorful illustrations, the comparisons of speed, weapons, manueverability, the history of design and purpose... all make for a well composed reference book.

My only complaint is that several of the older designs were relegated to the back of the book, with less impressive pictures and information, and a few vehicles of less importance were left out all together. So while this is a good reference for any Star Wars fan, it is not what I would call a complete reference. Still, a positive addition to any collection and useful when trying to make sure that the SW authors got their facts straight.
